Senior ruling party leaders, including Dahal, demand Oli’s resignation

UNV Desk:

Three top leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, including Pushpa Kamal Dahal, have demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resign.

According to a Standing Committee member, Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal and Bamdev Gautam at Tuesday’s meeting sought Oli’s resignation, saying that he had failed to run the government.

Their call comes two days after Oli made a public statement that plots were being hatched in Kathmandu and New Delhi to unseat him over his government’s move of releasing a new political map of Nepal depicting Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as Nepali territories. India claims these territories as its own.

The Standing Committee member said Dahal at Tuesday’s meeting told Oli that it was not India but him who has been seeking his resignation both as party chair and prime minister.

While addressing a function organised to mark the 69t birth anniversary of the late communist leader Madan Bhandari, Oli upped his nationalistic rhetoric, saying plots were being hatched in Delhi and Kathmandu to topple him.

Oli’s reference to activities in Kathmandu was aimed at his own party leaders, including Dahal, Nepal, Khanal and Gautam, who have been critical of Oli.

According to the Standing Committee member, leaders on Tuesday also demanded that the prime minister show proof of attempts being made to unseat him.
